About The Position

KS Engineers (KSE) is a mid-size engineering and surveying firm ranked among the leaders in design services. With seven offices across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, we have been delivering transportation and public infrastructure design and survey services for more than 35 years. This position will support multiple active projects throughout the New York metropolitan area. The role requires a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems commissioning, construction coordination, and field operations. The Senior MEP Commissioning Engineer will lead commissioning activities from planning through project closeout, ensuring building systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with project requirements and owner expectations. The role involves a combination of field and office work, with a Manhattan-based office and local travel between project sites required. Occasional night or weekend work may be required to support system shutdowns, testing activities, and facility cutovers. This position requires the physical ability to perform field inspections, including the ability to walk active construction sites, access mechanical and electrical equipment rooms, climb ladders, and access elevated equipment locations. The engineer must be comfortable working in active construction environments and diverse weather conditions, with extended periods of standing and walking, possibly on uneven or challenging terrains, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working long hours. The role also requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field (Additional 5 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • 10 years of engineering or construction experience
  • 5 years of commissioning experience
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, commissioning processes and construction operations
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to walk active construction sites and access mechanical and electrical equipment rooms
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated equipment locations
  • Comfortable working in active construction environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation
  • Oversee and coordinate: Pre-functional inspections, Functional performance testing, Integrated systems testing
  • Perform field inspections and verify equipment installation and system performance
  • Manage commissioning documentation including Checklists, Test reports, Issue tracking logs
  • Coordinate closely with contractors, design teams, facility owners, and agency representatives
  • Participate in system startup activities and integrated systems testing
  • Review Submittts, O&M manuals, Training documentation
  • Prepare final commissioning reports
  • Maintain project tracking tools and commissioning schedules
  • Utilize PMIS and project management tools including Facility Grid, Procore, Unifier, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
