About The Position

They are looking for a Senior Mental Health Clinical and Disability Consultant to play a key advisory role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health-related disabilities by helping shape recovery, rehabilitation, and sustainable return-to-work strategies. This specialized role requires clinical expertise in mental health disability management, rehabilitation, and recovery to support complex claims, guide evidence-based decision-making, and strengthen best practices across Medavie. The consultant will partner closely with Disability Case Specialists, healthcare providers, rehabilitation professionals, and business partners to promote timely, thoughtful, and effective outcomes. The role involves providing expert consultation on complex claims, coaching and mentoring disability professionals, promoting evidence-based practices, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of disability management at Medavie.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant health or clinical discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in mental health, rehabilitation, disability management, occupational health, or a related clinical field.
  • Experience supporting complex mental health disability cases and navigating recovery or return-to-work considerations.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, consulting, or providing specialized clinical guidance to disability management professionals.
  • Professional designation in a regulated health profession, including Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Other related clinical disciplines is mandatory.
  • Advanced knowledge of mental health conditions, evidence-based treatment approaches, and recovery-oriented practices.
  • Strong understanding of disability management and return-to-work principles.
  • Excellent coaching, consultation, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-support capabilities.
  • Ability to influence, build trust, and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • English & French proficiency is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess complex or high-risk mental health disability claims and provide practical recommendations that support recovery and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.
  • Review and interpret medical, psychological, and clinical information to inform case direction.
  • Identify barriers to recovery and recommend appropriate, timely intervention strategies.
  • Partner with Disability Case Specialists to develop effective case management strategies and action plans.
  • Promote proactive disability management practices and timely interventions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and coach to Disability Case Specialists and other disability management professionals.
  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching on mental health disability claims, functional assessment, claimant engagement, recovery planning, and return-to-work strategies.
  • Support the development of clinical reasoning and best-practice disability management approaches.
  • Develop and deliver practical tools, resources, training, and guidance materials that build mental health expertise across the organization.
  • Assess functional capacity, work readiness, and rehabilitation opportunities.
  • Recommend rehabilitation, clinical, and workplace interventions that support meaningful recovery.
  • Provide guidance on return-to-work planning and sustainable workplace reintegration ensuring the focus remains on function.
  • Identify trends, insights, and opportunities to enhance mental health disability management practices.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, best practices, and program enhancements that improve outcomes for claimants and teams including reducing claim durations with our Every Day Matters Philosophy.
  • Maintain current knowledge of mental health, rehabilitation, disability management, and insurance industry trends.
