About The Position
Alleghany Highlands Community Services is seeking current Master's degree students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Human Services for a paid internship opportunity. This onsite role offers hands-on experience in mental health services, working directly with clients in a supportive, person-centric environment. The internship focuses on deepening understanding of mental health, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and developmental disabilities, while developing essential assessment, diagnostic, and person-centered service planning skills.
Requirements
- Current Master's degree student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Human Services.
- Understanding of the characteristics of substance use disorders, mental illness, and developmental and intellectual disabilities.
- Meticulous in maintaining confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with basic office equipment, including fax machines, scanners, copiers, and telephones.
- Strong communication skills.
- Person-centric approach.
- Must undergo a background check, including social services review, and drug screen.
Responsibilities

- Engage with seasoned professionals to learn how to identify symptoms.
- Explore various treatment modalities.
- Develop essential assessment and diagnostic skills.
