Senior Member of Technical Staff (Applied AI)

SolsticeNew York City, NY
Onsite

About The Position

Solstice is redefining how life sciences organizations commercialize therapeutics by building a commercial engine that allows pharmaceutical marketers to launch campaigns at 100x the speed. Our mission is to accelerate the knowledge of life-saving medicines. We are seeking a senior Applied AI engineer to own the technical direction of our AI systems, including retrieval, generation, verification, and keeping systems running in production. This role offers the opportunity to influence product strategy, technical hiring, and market positioning, working closely with the VP of Engineering and co-founders.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping, operating, and maintaining ML/LLM systems in production.
  • History of inventing metrics to measure and improve systems.
  • Depth in LLMs: retrieval, agentic pipelines, targeted fine-tuning.
  • Full-stack proficiency: Python, FastAPI, Docker, AWS.
  • Ability to take ideas from research to deployed service independently.
  • Confidence in making decisions amid unknowns and ability to adjust fast.
  • Strong collaboration and feedback skills.
  • Direct and open communication style.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the life sciences or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Understanding of MLR review processes and compliance requirements in pharma marketing.
  • Experience with visual generation and ensuring brand system consistency.
  • Knowledge of hierarchy and typography in marketing materials.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction of AI systems: retrieval, generation, verification, and production operations.
  • Develop AI systems that produce high-craft output, ensuring visual and textual excellence in pharma assets like emails, banners, slides, and leave-behinds.
  • Connect generated assets to real-world performance data (engagement, HCP response, scripts written) to improve future output.
  • Develop offline metrics to track downstream MLR (Medical, Legal, Regulatory) pass rates, given the slow and inconsistent nature of compliance feedback.
  • Ensure claim-level attribution by preserving provenance through generation, tracing every sentence back to specific, defensible sources from proprietary corpora (prescribing information, clinical data, approved assets, style guides, claim libraries).
  • Implement full CI/CD for ML, including versioning, automated testing, monitoring, and behavioral regression testing to manage tail risks and ensure ongoing vigilance.
  • Ship, operate, and maintain ML/LLM systems in production.
  • Invent metrics to measure and improve AI systems.
  • Develop expertise in retrieval, agentic pipelines, and targeted fine-tuning of LLMs.
  • Take ideas from research to deployed service independently.
  • Make confident decisions amid unknowns and adjust quickly.
  • Collaborate effectively and provide strong feedback.
