About The Position

As a Senior Medical Planner at Perkins&Will, you will take responsibility for leading all phases of the design process with a high level of proficiency and expertise while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design. You will provide master planning, design, and related medical architecture expertise. Collaborate with members of the healthcare group to design a project that meets the firm’s commitment to design, quality, schedules, client needs, financial budget, and timetable. Partner with clients in determining goals and objectives of the healthcare facility through a clear programming process. Develop healthcare operational volume projections and understand hospital operations. Manage the production of an architectural program for clients. Provide leadership to carry out the goals and objectives of the project and communicate with team members in a timely manner. Participate in marketing proposals and interviews. Execute alternate design solutions for consideration based on the client’s long-range plan during the master planning and design phases. Support team members with the schematic design phase and take responsibility for all functional aspects of the proposed solutions. Develop room and departmental layouts and assist in the selection of building systems. Oversee the inclusion of program requirements during the construction document phase. Work directly with senior designers to size and mass the building. Evaluate existing facilities. Manage, develop, and facilitate data collection through interviews, focus groups, end-user surveys, observation, and post-occupancy evaluation. Review work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual. Participate and collaborate in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups. Demonstrate strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance. Mentor staff. Coordinate effectively with partners and consultants.

  • Presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop
  • Professional degree in architecture, or related discipline
  • Professional architectural license or 25 years of experience in the design profession preferred
  • LEED GA within 6 months of hire
  • Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation
  • ACHA Accreditation Preferred
  • 15+ years of experience
