About The Position

Ramboll is actively seeking a Senior Mechanical-HVAC Engineer in our Advanced Manufacturing Division, located in the Binghamton, NY office. The selected candidate will be expected to work across a wide range of mechanical engineering knowledge areas with a desired focus on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). The role involves performing design and engineering work in various mechanical disciplines, including HVAC, industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, and fire protection. Responsibilities include coordinating with other engineering disciplines, developing conceptual designs and cost estimates, creating design drawings using Revit, conducting energy assessments, assessing and designing building ventilation systems, performing spreadsheet analysis for energy and cost savings, utilizing building modeling software (HAP or Trane Trace), specifying mechanical equipment, designing plumbing and building utility piping systems, summarizing engineering results in reports and presentations, and visiting job sites as required. Adherence to Ramboll’s Project Execution Manual and promoting a safe working environment are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or greater
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering and design of HVAC systems
  • Ability to foster a creative engineering environment
  • Strong communication skills, (both in written and verbal)
  • Ability to work across a wide range of areas within the mechanical engineering discipline
  • Strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite of programs

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed professional engineer strongly preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit design software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performing design and engineering work in various areas of the mechanical discipline, with a majority related to heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
  • Work in industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, and fire protection.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to produce final construction drawings and details associated with mechanical engineering projects.
  • Developing conceptual designs and cost estimates for early stages of the project life cycle.
  • Creating design drawings utilizing Revit 3D design software.
  • Conducting or participating in investigative energy assessments to identify energy and cost savings measures.
  • Assessing and designing building ventilation systems based on requirements for heat removal in industrial spaces and maintaining indoor air quality.
  • Conducting spreadsheet analysis to assess the energy and cost savings of proposed energy conservation measures (ECMs).
  • Utilizing building modeling software (HAP or Trane Trace) to determine envelope heat gains/losses and assess savings potentials of ECMs.
  • Specifying mechanical equipment.
  • Designing plumbing and building utility piping systems.
  • Summarizing engineering results in written reports and/or presentations that are cohesive and of the highest quality.
  • Visiting job sites as required for projects involving upfit of existing systems.
  • Adhering to the policies and standards set forth in the Ramboll’s Project Execution Manual.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees by adhering to Ramboll’s Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures.
