About The Position

At CesiumAstro, the Senior Mechanical Engineer develops, analyzes, integrates, and tests mechanical systems and hardware supporting complex products and platforms. The role contributes to product development by addressing moderately complex mechanical engineering challenges, evaluating system performance, and supporting decisions that ensure products meet engineering, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and mission requirements. The engineer works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, industrial design, engineering technology, or a related technical field with 5–8 years of related experience; or a master’s degree with 3–6 years of related experience; or a PhD with 0–3 years of related experience in mechanical engineering, structural analysis, stress analysis, CAD, product design, or a related engineering discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, machine design, mechanical systems, and product development practices.
  • Extensive experience designing mechanical components, assemblies, structures, mechanisms, and manufacturing solutions for complex products.
  • Strong understanding of engineering analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, GD&T, testing, manufacturing processes, and product verification methods.
  • Ability to resolve moderately complex mechanical engineering challenges through sound engineering analysis and technical evaluation.
  • Sound judgment in providing mechanical engineering guidance and recommending technical solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience with mechanical design, CAD, simulation, and engineering analysis tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, or MATLAB, or equivalent applications.
  • Experience with engineering documentation, PLM, ERP, and collaboration tools such as Windchill, SAP, or Jira, or equivalent applications.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under applicable space technology export regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical components, assemblies, structures, mechanisms, and hardware for complex products and manufacturing activities.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, structural evaluations, tolerance studies, thermal assessments, and design trade studies.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and technical documentation to support mechanical design decisions.
  • Develop and conduct mechanical testing, verification, qualification, and validation activities.
  • Evaluate engineering data, test results, inspection findings, manufacturing information, and product performance to resolve mechanical engineering challenges.
  • Recommend root cause investigations, engineering changes, corrective actions, and design improvements that support product reliability and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations teams across multiple programs.
  • Develop engineering drawings, 3D models, technical reports, design documentation, bills of materials, engineering change documentation, and engineering recommendations.
  • Provide mechanical engineering guidance during design reviews, engineering investigations, manufacturing reviews, and product development activities.
  • Evaluate engineering methodologies, design practices, standards, and product development processes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen product performance, manufacturability, reliability, quality, and engineering effectiveness.
  • Recommend improvements to mechanical designs, engineering documentation, development processes, and validation activities.
