About The Position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will develop detailed design solutions from product requirements with minimal oversight, present proposed designs to design and manufacturing engineers, perform design-for-manufacturing work with vendors, and prepare final fabrication drawings and bills of material. The role also builds initial prototypes, completes validation, and performs required design verification. Collaboration and effective communication in a remote environment are essential. The engineer collaborates with Hardware, Software, Signal Integrity, and Mechanical engineering teams on signal delivery projects, including requirements, design concepts, project schedules, prototyping and testing, and New Product Introduction. The role develops and maintains design documentation, coordinates validation plans and interprets signal integrity test results, manages vendor statements of work and design reviews, and maintains part numbers, bills of material, assembly drawings, engineering change notices, calculations, simulations, and performance data. The position is based in Agoura Hills, California. Candidates must be local to the position; relocation and visa sponsorship are unavailable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • At least 5 years of relevant electro-mechanical design experience.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD software and PDM tools.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal and machined-part design.
  • Familiarity with stress/strain analysis and FEA.
  • Ability to prepare presentations explaining work and design proposals to remote teams.
  • Familiarity with remote collaboration tools such as Teams, Webex, or Zoom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team.
  • Must be local to the position location; relocation is not provided.
  • Not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge or prior experience with electrical connector design for power delivery and high-speed signal delivery.
  • Experience measuring connector performance metrics such as lifecycle, contact resistance, and current-carrying capacity.
  • Familiarity with signal integrity concepts for single-ended and differential signaling, including insertion loss, return loss, and crosstalk.
  • Familiarity with coaxial cable mass termination techniques.
  • Basic PCB design knowledge, including material selection, high-speed signal routing, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Previous experience with Cadence Allegro or a similar PCB CAD tool.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Hardware, Software, Signal Integrity, and Mechanical engineering teams to understand requirements and constraints for new signal delivery projects.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation.
  • Manage signal delivery project schedules through design, prototyping and testing, and New Product Introduction phases.
  • Develop Statements of Work for third-party vendors.
  • Work with signal delivery architects and third-party vendors to create design concepts and participate in design reviews.
  • Coordinate with signal delivery architects to create test plans that validate signal integrity requirements, interpret test results, and determine whether they meet design requirements.
  • Collect and maintain design documentation, calculations, simulation results, and measured performance data for new and existing signal delivery designs.
  • Create and maintain part numbers, bills of material, and assembly drawings for signal delivery projects.
  • Create Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to document and track design changes.
  • Create high-level documentation communicating signal delivery designs to other Teradyne teams.
  • Develop detailed design solutions from product requirements, present proposed solutions, perform design-for-manufacturing work with vendors, and prepare final drawings and bills of material for fabrication.
  • Build initial prototypes, complete validation, and perform required design verification.
