Senior Mechanical Engineer

CesiumAstro•Westminster, CO

About The Position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer develops the design, analysis, integration, and testing of mechanical systems and hardware supporting complex products and platforms. The role contributes to product development by resolving moderately complex mechanical engineering challenges, evaluating system performance, and supporting engineering decisions that ensure products satisfy engineering, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and mission requirements. The engineer works cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, industrial design, engineering technology, or a related technical field with 5–8 years of related experience; or a master's degree with 3–6 years of related experience; or a PhD with 0–3 years of related experience in mechanical engineering, structural analysis, stress analysis, CAD, product design, or a related engineering discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, machine design, mechanical systems, and product development practices.
  • Extensive experience designing mechanical components, assemblies, structures, mechanisms, and manufacturing solutions for complex products.
  • Strong understanding of engineering analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, GD&T, testing, manufacturing processes, and product verification methods.
  • Ability to resolve moderately complex mechanical engineering challenges through sound engineering analysis and technical evaluation.
  • Sound judgment in providing mechanical engineering guidance and recommending technical solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience using mechanical design, CAD, simulation, and engineering analysis tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, MATLAB, or equivalent applications.
  • Experience using engineering documentation, PLM, ERP, and collaboration tools such as Windchill, SAP, Jira, or equivalent applications.
  • Must meet U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee or refugee (protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical components, assemblies, structures, mechanisms, and hardware supporting complex products and manufacturing activities.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, structural evaluations, tolerance studies, thermal assessments, and design trade studies.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and technical documentation to support mechanical design decisions.
  • Develop and conduct mechanical testing, verification, qualification, and validation activities supporting engineering and manufacturing objectives.
  • Evaluate engineering data, test results, inspection findings, manufacturing information, and product performance to resolve moderately complex mechanical engineering challenges.
  • Recommend root cause investigations, engineering changes, corrective actions, and design improvements to support product reliability and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations teams across multiple programs.
  • Develop engineering drawings, 3D models, technical reports, design documentation, bills of materials, engineering change documentation, and engineering recommendations.
  • Provide mechanical engineering guidance during design reviews, engineering investigations, manufacturing reviews, and product development activities.
  • Evaluate mechanical engineering methodologies, design practices, engineering standards, and product development processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen product performance, manufacturability, reliability, quality, and engineering effectiveness.
  • Recommend improvements to mechanical designs, engineering documentation, development processes, and validation activities.
