About The Position

Schneider Electric has a meaningful opportunity available for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Power Systems division. You will work for a company consistently rated by Fortune as one of the “Great Places to Work”, by Glassdoor as the 11th spot on the “Best Place To Work” and by TIME as the “Most Sustainable Company in the World.” Responsible for design and integration of Medium Voltage (MV) air and gas insulated switchgear. Utilize CAD software (Creo) to design multiple component and assembly options for product concepts. Accountable for investigating and developing complex switchgear architectures. Works independently, exercises latitude and judgment to develop designs with minimal supervision. Perform mechanical analysis of mechanisms (tolerance, stress, deformation, kinematic). Manage the execution of verification & validation in laboratories and provides the analysis of results & reports to internal customers. Develop engineering records that conform to internal standards and support the development, implementation, and maintenance stages of the projects/products. Experienced in formal Offer Creation Processes (OCP). Direct product design experience related to ANSI/IEEE Medium Voltage air and gas insulated Switchgear. Fulfills technical missions, with autonomy to propose/develop complex solutions in Medium Voltage air and gas insulated switchgear. May have hierarchical or functional responsibilities. May provide mentoring, instructions/assistance. If needed, manages the execution of verification & validation in laboratories and provides the analysis of results & reports to internal customers. Lead interface with manufacturing and quality organizations to ensure that a well-optimized and sustainable component/assembly is developed from fabrication/assembly concerns (Tolerance Analysis). Helps establish internal procedures and best practices. Creation of multiple component/assembly solutions to envisioned product concept. Development to be synchronized with changes/advances to existing product releases. This includes manipulation of appropriate CAD software. Develop electronic and hard copy records that conform to internal standards and support the development, implementation, and maintenance stages of the projects/products. Examples include up to date BOM (part number, description, material, processes, where used), Component Drawings (geometry, functional dimensioning, process callout), and Project General Files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of product development experience (for Bachelor’s degree; less experienced considered with advanced degree).
  • Prepare instructional/operational information as required.
  • Prepares sketches or diagrams reflecting basic design concept.
  • Makes mathematical calculations and adjustments in drawings and specifications.
  • Recommends changes or modifications as appropriate to meet manufacturability, functionality, and measurability requirements.
  • Prepares and oversees final layout, detail, assembly drawings, and other required documentation.
  • Creates computer models of the product design concept.
  • Generates and maintains organized database and/or B.O.M., change reports and/or other documentation.
  • Experienced in formal new product development processes (example, PMP).

Nice To Haves

  • Designing medium voltage switchgear equipment
  • Experience in CAD tools (ProE, Creo, Auto CAD)
  • As IEEE / ANSI / UL testing requirements
  • Knowledge of standards for Medium Voltage air and gas insulated switchgears (Circuit Breaker test duties, Hi Pot, Partial Discharge, BIL, etc.)
  • Experience with formal product safety review process
  • Creation and use of Fault Tree Analysis
  • Creation and management of Design and Application FMEAs
  • Tolerance analysis using Tolerance Manager, CETOL or equivalent
