About The Position

We specialize in power generation and delivery services. Our Nuclear Services Division specializes in providing high-quality engineering, procurement, design, and project management for operating and new reactor clients, and partners with our other divisions to integrate nuclear design with electrical high-voltage, substations, switchyard, transmission line, and distribution design. Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team based in Knoxville, TN in delivering a wide range of projects for our Generation, Industrial, and Government clients. Experience with design, engineering, procurement, and construction processes in multi-discipline projects is required.

Requirements

Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Strong knowledge of mechanical design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA).
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Experience with Detailed Stress Analysis – In depth analysis of piping systems, custom piping components, or fabrication assemblies utilizing AutoPIPE, Caesar II, Paulin PRG, Nastran, Inventor, and/or SolidWorks
Possess a willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
Possess a strong knowledge of power generation types – Coal, Gas, Hydro, and Nuclear.
Possess a strong knowledge of client manufacturing, fabrication, and operational processes.
In depth working knowledge of mechanical systems and innerworkings – Boilers, Tanks/Vessels, compressors/blowers, HRSG, Turbines, Major and Minor Piping Systems, pumps, etc.

Nice To Haves

Additional software skills including Bluebeam, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Vault, Plant3D, Inventor, ReCap, SolidWorks, FARO Scene, and other 3D rendering programs preferred.

Responsibilities

Preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs and supporting documents such as design criteria, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Assist in the definition of project objectives, preparation of design estimates, and definition of project requirements and routine design approaches.
Responsible for scoping, estimating, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering projects, which may have unique or complex technical or project execution requirements.
Performs technical and coordination checking review of deliverables and other project documents and ensures deliverables comply with company procedures and applicable design requirements.
Direct overall project design and supervise development of project design and engineering documents associated with assigned project.
Apply basic knowledge of system design principles and practices to develop a complete and accurate design package.
Perform walkdowns and collects detailed field information related to site configuration, existing equipment data, and scoping efforts.
Perform technical and coordination checking/review of deliverables and other project documents.
Prepare calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application of specific software as required.
