About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary design team in support of industrial process and power generation design projects. This position includes leading mechanical engineering efforts for mid- to large-sized capital projects, as well as providing technical oversight of staff engineers. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Industrial and Power Generation offices across the United States. Primary locations are Austin TX, Dallas TX, Houston TX, Denver CO, Long Beach CA and New Orleans, LA.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Understanding of design, industrial process and energy projects.
  • Experience in industrial and/or energy-related fields.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 9+ years of experience in industrial and/or energy-related fields.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (API, ASME, PIP, ANSI, ASTM, etc.).
  • Experience with engineering calculation software packages (Pipe-Flo, Applied Flow Technology Fathom, CAESAR II).

Responsibilities

  • Support proposal development by creating deliverable lists, estimating engineering hours, and providing mechanical engineering input for proposal write-ups.
  • Serve as the lead mechanical engineer on medium to large projects. Maintain responsibility for the development of deliverables, management of junior mechanical engineering staff, and coordination with other disciplines. Typical deliverables include P&IDs, equipment location plans, piping plans, piping isometrics, piping material specifications, mechanical equipment lists, piping line lists, specialty items lists, and construction scopes of work.
  • Coordinate with project management and other disciplines regarding design work, scope changes, engineering budgets, and schedule constraints.
  • Perform and check engineering calculations, including equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and pipe stress analysis.
  • Support the equipment procurement process, including the development of specifications and data sheets, obtaining quotations, completing technical bid tabulations, and reviewing equipment vendor data.
  • Conduct occasional site visits for proposal development, project walkthroughs, field data acquisition, design verification, and construction support.
  • Assist the design team with the development of the project model and system layout.
  • Assist the Chief Mechanical Engineer with workload distribution for junior engineers and manpower loading plans.
  • Provide feedback, mentorship, and leadership to developing engineers.
