About The Position

Nightwing is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Springfield VA location to support technology development and mission programs. As part of a collaborative team of mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers, you will develop solutions from concepts through prototype development, testing, documentation, and production.

Requirements

Candidate must hold a TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a bachelor’s degree, or three (3) years with an advanced degree.
Product development experience using rapid, iterative design and prototyping methods with frequent integration/test cycles
Practical, hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes, including motors, actuators, and sensors
Experience with CAD software for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks & Revit preferred)
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and documentation
Proficient in mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing diverse project tasks and types
Working knowledge of common hand and powered tools
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Willingness and ability to travel for temporary assignments (less than 10% travel)

Nice To Haves

Coursework in Finite Element Analysis and Mechanics of Materials
Experience with engineering data analysis tools such as Matlab and Mathcad
Experience designing for and using additive manufacturing
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Project Management experience

Responsibilities

Collaborate with teams and develop innovative, practical solutions that drive program success.
Product design, engineering analysis, creating and delivering drawings, coordinating hardware fabrication, and authoring detailed technical procedures.
Apply advanced knowledge to resolve difficult and sometimes complex problems, often involving multiple issues or specialties.
Make improvements to processes, systems, or products that enhance program and engineering performance.
Manage small projects or processes that affect operational results of the program.
Prepare presentations, reports, cost estimates, and design reviews for diverse audiences.
Assist the Program Manager with the technical, cost, and schedule requirements of current tasks.
Shape strategies for future tasks based on customer needs.
Communicate with parties both within and outside the organization, which may include external customers and vendors, and work to influence these parties on relevant policies, practices, and procedures.
Coach and review the work of less experienced engineering professionals, providing input and guidance on their tasks and assignments.
