Senior Mechanical Engineer

About The Position

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer specializing in design, test, and deployment to build out Strata’s v1 robot, helping to transform prototypes into reliable, scalable hardware systems for manufacturing and field deployment. We are building the first robot designed more like heavy equipment than a robot — building robust hardware from the beginning is critical for deployment success.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, with 3+ years designing, building, and testing complex hardware systems (rugged equipment, aerospace, etc.)
  • Experience developing system test plans and knowing how to execute them efficiently within fast-paced product development timelines.
  • Proficiency in CAD and GD&T is required, in Siemens NX preferred.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment: owning a subsystem end-to-end from concept sketch through vendor sourcing, build, test, and field deployment.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic or fluid power systems (cylinders, valves, HPUs, pumps, manifolds) and/or high-payload structural design is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design v1 structure, working closely with the CTO and electromechanical team to define and satisfy requirements for a robot in rugged, dirty, hazardous environments that can carry multi-ton loads.
  • Perform mechanism design and analysis (motion studies, interference/clearance checks, load paths, tolerance stacks) to validate design intent before parts are cut.
  • Partner with external vendors and manufacturers to source v1 parts, building out early supply chain relationships.
  • Create drawings for manufacturing, welding, and assembly, following GD&T ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Develop hardware test plans from functional to qualification testing.
  • Define hardware success criteria with customers throughout pilot program.
