Senior Mechanical Engineer

SAIC•Lawrence, IN

About The Position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer – Production Support serves as the primary engineering focal point for production-related technical issues. The role works closely with Quality Assurance, Procurement, Purchasing, Production, and Engineering to support smooth, repeatable, and compliant build processes. The engineer leads troubleshooting of mechanical and electromechanical production issues, supports and dispositions non-conformances (NCRs), and reviews and approves engineering deviations and waivers for U.S. government and defense customers. The role develops and refines processes and documentation to transition products from development to full-rate production, including DFM/DFA reviews, production travelers and work instructions, and routings. The position involves mechanical systems, electronics packaging, material finishes and coatings, 3D printing/additive manufacturing, precision machining, etching, and cable and harness assembly. The engineer reads and interprets complex 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models, including GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and configuration-controlled baselines. The role also requires familiarity with IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, relevant MIL-SPEC/MIL-STD requirements, MBOMs, parts lists and BOM structures, and configuration management practices. Additional work includes driving root cause and corrective action (RCCA), supporting design changes and engineering change orders (ECOs/ECNs), collaborating on supplier manufacturing issues, participating in production readiness reviews (PRRs), and contributing to continuous improvement.
