Senior Mechanical Engineer - Contractor

Medvacon Life SciencesWayne, NJ

About The Position

This is a temporary 6-month contracted W2 position. The pay range for this position is $70-$85/hr (depending on prior experience). The role involves applying expertise as an emerging authority in the mechanical engineering discipline, conceiving and developing solutions to difficult analytical and pneumatic/mechanical/electrical design problems. The engineer will participate in establishing system or component design objectives, write portions of complex specifications and engineering reports, and review and help develop product specifications. Responsibilities include conducting conceptual design studies using MCAD and other applicable design tools, collaborating with other engineering functions, developing prototype hardware using internal manufacturing resources and outside vendors, and testing products to verify designs meet specification requirements such as environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements. The role also involves generating documentation supporting the design and providing training, technical advice, and guidance to junior engineers, potentially as a Project Leader or Lead Engineer of small to medium projects.

Requirements

  • BSME or MSME and a minimum of 10 years of related experience in design/product development of electro pneumatic assemblies including technical supervision of sub-projects.
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly, DFM&A (cost/tooling/process considerations), preferably using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Understanding of mechanical design and development using metric ANSI/ISO dimensioning and drafting standards.
  • Understanding of GD&T, mechanical measurement and testing equip., and statistical analysis of test data.
  • Experience with electronic document control systems in medical device and/or medical equipment design and development.
  • Highly skilled at analytical reasoning, mechanism design, creative problem solving, and mathematical analysis.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with dimensioning and tolerance, thermal and structural analysis, and vibration testing/analysis.
  • Intermediate knowledge of FDA, IEC and UL standards relating to medical electronic equipment.
  • Strong technical and analytical ability, verbal and written communication skills, ingenuity and creativity, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Ability to operate test equipment such as various pressure and flow measurement equipment, temperature/humidity chambers, PC-based data recorders, simulators, DVM’s and oscilloscopes.
  • Familiarity and the ability to operate basic shop equipment such as a drill press, lathe, milling machine, brake and shear.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding in design and development of injection molded plastic, plastic extrusion, casting, sheet metal, metal stampings, additive manufacturing processes, and machined metal components, and assemblies with high part counts highly desirable.
