About The Position

This position requires experienced individuals who are self-starters capable of working independently and leading/supervising junior engineers. The individuals will work in a fast-paced team environment performing engineering services for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization. Your role Perform conceptual and detail design activities for mechanical systems which include preparation of flow sheets, detail drawings, equipment arrangement/layouts as well as sizing and selection of mechanical equipment, technical specifications, and registration design submissions related to power plants (both conventional and/or nuclear), mining, oil & gas industry, etc. Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client/company procedures. Review design calculation, analysis reports, documents, and drawings in support of design verification. Define mechanical work scope, performing cost estimates, support proposal preparation, monitoring and reporting project progress and communicating with clients. Interface with other engineering disciplines to obtain data and resolve issues relevant to design. Conduct technical, conceptual and detailed design meetings with peers, clients, and suppliers. Conduct site visits at site and suppliers. Perform pre-order and post-order engineering support for procurement of engineered equipment and packages including vendor documents review, preparing and reviewing engineering quotation requests, technical evaluations and resolving design deviations. Provide engineering support to quality surveillance, manufacturing, assembly and testing with non-conformances. Review and approve supplier’s capability to fabricate the required component within the applicable requirements. Evaluate the completeness and status of delivered equipment.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Science.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in a Province of Canada, qualified to seal mechanical and chemical engineering documents.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Mechanical Equipment Design with knowledge in piping systems, pumps, motors, valves, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, packaged equipment, etc.
  • Solid understanding of process systems, P&IDs, material selection and fundamentals of equipment design.
  • Solid understanding and experience with equipment sizing, selection, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Experience working in or performing design work for Balance of Plant systems within a nuclear facility licensed in Canada or outside Canada.
  • Demonstrable experience leading a team of technical professionals.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ANSI B31.1, ASME B31.3 codes, ASME Section VIII and other power plants applicable standards or regulatory guides.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Willing to travel to and potentially work full or part-time at Project sites to meet corporate needs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing work according to nuclear power plants procedures, practices with the appropriate qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities is an asset.
  • Knowledge of/experience using nuclear pressure boundary Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III for reactor systems, code classification, code class boundary, and design registration is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of closed loop cooling water supply and chilled water supply systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of drainage systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of seismic and environmental qualification methods and processes is an asset.
  • Presentation skills and public speaking abilities are an asset.
