Senior Mechanical Engineer, Motorized Blower Development

ResMed•Calabasas, CA
•$147,000 - $184,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Design the technology that helps power better breathing. Join Resmed’s motorized blower new product development team and help create the mechanical systems at the heart of products designed to improve people’s health. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will design, develop, prototype and test motorized blowers and their components, turning engineering requirements into robust designs that can be manufactured at scale. Your key deliverables will include mechanical specifications, tolerance analyses, layouts, engineering drawings, technical proposals, test protocols and verification evidence. You will guide project work, mentor junior colleagues and bring sound engineering judgement to decisions that affect product fit, form and function. This is a hybrid role in Calabasas, California.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Expertise with plastic-part design and design for plastic injection moulding.
  • Ability to use Creo or Pro/E CAD software and PDM or Intralink.
  • Experience with risk management and FMEA.
  • Experience working with controlled documents, engineering change processes, engineering drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to apply statistical analysis techniques, including the use of Minitab or JMP.
  • Familiarity in root-cause analysis and recognised structured problem-solving methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to peers and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of manufacturing operations, the product development lifecycle or the broader Resmed business.
  • Knowledge of motors, rotary components, sound, noise and vibration theory, testing equipment and data analysis.
  • Experience with FEA software such as ANSYS, high-volume manufacturing or a highly regulated industry, preferably medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design motorized blower systems, components and assemblies for new products and improvements to existing products.
  • Define mechanical specifications that support reliable manufacture and confirm that designs meet product requirements.
  • Produce mechanical designs, tolerance analyses, layouts and engineering drawings using established document and change-control processes.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes, then plan and execute engineering tests for blowers and related components.
  • Analyse test data, document findings and communicate clear recommendations through reports and technical proposals.
  • Author and execute protocols for product testing, verification and validation against defined requirements and specifications.
  • Assess design risks and potential effects on product fit, form and function, using structured risk-management methods and FMEA.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering to quantify how blower-level risks may affect the downstream flow generator.
  • Apply engineering principles across motor design, rotor and structural dynamics, acoustics, vibration, machine design, fluid dynamics, statistics, numerical methods and engineering economics.
  • Lead project-team activities, provide technical direction and formally mentor or train junior engineers.
  • Work across manufacturing, quality, operations, procurement, supplier alliance and customer groups to gather input and ensure designs are appropriate for their intended requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of manufacturing processes for the product.
  • Use root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods to investigate technical issues and support sound design decisions.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the team’s development priorities.
