The Senior Mechanical Engineer prepares engineering reports, plans, and specifications for industrial projects and develops mechanical design approaches for major phases of large projects, from initial design through installation. The role emphasizes equipment specification, load calculations, ductwork and pipe sizing, HVAC equipment selection, and design of plumbing and fire protection systems. It also involves utility-service piping for complex industrial projects, including nitrogen, oxygen, deionized water, fuel oil, steam, and instrument air. The engineer produces drawings and instructions based on calculations; interprets and revises drawings; and prepares plans, isometrics, schematics, P&IDs, PFDs, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates. The role includes equipment selection and sizing, piping stress analysis and support design for data center and industrial projects, and energy modeling in COMcheck. The engineer supervises installation, repair, and replacement of systems to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards, participates in contract bidding and administration, and checks and approves shop drawings. The position oversees design and project progress, coordinates with public officials and outside agencies, and leads coordination with clients, contractors, consultants, and firm staff. It also involves communicating with project teams, client representatives, and review agencies, and leading research to resolve complex engineering problems. The engineer must understand applicable industrial design codes and standards, including ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, and the IBC code set.
