About The Position

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Thermal Infrastructure department in the Raleigh, NC and Orlando, FL offices. This role involves the design of thermal infrastructure systems and collaboration with a team of engineers across various disciplines, including structural, civil, and electrical. The MEPS group at Dewberry has extensive experience in high-performance buildings, net-zero energy design, renewable energy technologies, microgrids, energy storage systems, and decarbonization/electrification. They work with a diverse client base including universities, government agencies, and industrial manufacturers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer’s license.
  • 15+ years of technical experience in the design of thermal distribution systems, central utility plants, and/or building mechanical systems.
  • Self-motivated and well organized.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design of institutional, educational, healthcare, laboratory and military projects is desired.
  • Proven history of solid design work, meeting project deadlines and budgets, and working well in a team environment.
  • Existing licensure in NC and/or VA is preferred.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Civil3D, and/or drafting is a plus.
  • Experience in pipe stress modeling is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical engineering calculations, reports, construction drawings and specifications, project schedules, and cost estimates to meet project requirements.
  • Design of thermal distribution systems, campus master planning, district and central utility plant design, building conversion design, and condition assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and quality oversight, including code review, of all project work.
  • Provide technical training and development of staff.
  • Assist in establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications.
  • Act as Engineer of Record.
  • Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions regarding technical aspects and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with all involved disciplines, including outside consultants.
  • Serve as the technical interface with code officials and contractors.
