Senior Mechanical Engineer, Interiors and Structures

Greenpoint TechnologiesBothell, WA

About The Position

Creates complex designs of VIP aircraft interiors and/or structures to meet customer criteria, quality standards, FAA requirements, budget, and project schedules using Computer Aided Drafting/Design tools. This role involves designing complex mechanical aircraft interior furnishing and/or structures such as ceilings, sidewalls, OEM mods, flooring, floor structure, and ceiling grids. The engineer will analyze and interpret subsystem and project specifications, select and evaluate materials based on structural needs and specifications, and optimize designs for reduced costs and improved quality in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineers. The position requires an understanding of Bills of Materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications, ensuring designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and FAA requirements while adhering to budget and project schedules. The role also involves providing design guidance, maintaining up-to-date knowledge in mechanical design practices, materials, components, and software design tools, and independently solving problems. Collaboration with the Design Department to develop aesthetic product designs and providing liaison engineering support are also key aspects. Additionally, the role includes supporting test setups and reports, maintaining regular attendance, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Strong Computer Aided Drafting/Design skills, both 3D (Inventor preferred) and 2D (AutoCAD)
  • Familiarity with industry standard practices, fasteners, materials, and component parts. As well as the ability to search and specify new supplied parts.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design-for-manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection.
  • Knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting (ANSI Y14.5) standards.
  • Understanding of mechanical motion modeling, and weight and balance analysis
  • Ability to check engineering drawings for Fit, Form and Function.
  • Ability to meet high expectations for meeting strict schedule, budget and technical solutions with minimal margin of error.
  • Ability to adapt to tailored processes designed for prototype engineering (vs. production engineering)
  • Broad and diverse knowledge of multiple disciplines: Mechanical: lower and upper attached structure, monuments, ceilings, side walls, flooring, placards, OEM modifications, etc. Avionics: Locating, provisioning, and installations for LRUs (electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, use hands to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and have close/color vision ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to work outside of core business hours as required.
