About The Position

Creates complex designs of VIP aircraft interiors and/or structures to meet customer criteria, quality standards, FAA requirements, budget, and project schedules using Computer Aided Drafting/Design tools. Designs complex mechanical aircraft interior furnishing and/or structures such as ceilings, sidewalls, OEM mods, flooring, floor structure, and ceiling grids. Analyzes and interprets subsystem and project specifications. Selects materials for mechanical designs based on structural needs and materials specifications. Evaluates trade-offs in materials, hardness, composites, treatments, coatings, and other selections to best meet design objectives. Works with materials suppliers and material testing when needed. Applies experience and knowledge, and works with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced parts counts, reduced manufacturing costs, reduced assembly error, and other factors affecting production cost and quality. Understands Bills of Materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications. Ensures designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and FAA requirements. Adheres to budget and project schedules. Provides design guidance and feedback to other engineering personnel. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in mechanical design practices, materials, components, and software design tools. Independently finds or creates solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness, and creativity. Works with the Design Department to develop esthetic product designs that meet the market need and customer acceptance. Provides liaison engineering support. Supports test setups preparation and test reports development. Maintains regular attendance including being at work, being on time to work, and working full shifts. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering, a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Aviation background and aircraft interior experience required
  • Strong Computer Aided Drafting/Design skills, both 3D (Inventor preferred) and 2D (AutoCAD)
  • Familiarity with industry standard practices, fasteners, materials, and component parts
  • Ability to search and specify new supplied parts
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design-for-manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection
  • Knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting (ANSI Y14.5) standards
  • Understanding of mechanical motion modeling, and weight and balance analysis
  • Ability to check engineering drawings for Fit, Form and Function
  • Ability to meet high expectations for meeting strict schedule, budget and technical solutions with minimal margin of error
  • Ability to adapt to tailored processes designed for prototype engineering (vs. production engineering)
  • Broad and diverse knowledge of multiple disciplines: Mechanical: lower and upper attached structure, monuments, ceilings, side walls, flooring, placards, OEM modifications, etc.
  • Avionics: Locating, provisioning, and installations for LRUs (electrical equipment)
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Use hands to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Close/color vision ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to work outside of core business hours as required
