Creates complex designs of VIP aircraft interiors and/or structures to meet customer criteria, quality standards, FAA requirements, budget, and project schedules using Computer Aided Drafting/Design tools. Designs complex mechanical aircraft interior furnishing and/or structures such as ceilings, sidewalls, OEM mods, flooring, floor structure, and ceiling grids. Analyzes and interprets subsystem and project specifications. Selects materials for mechanical designs based on structural needs and materials specifications. Evaluates trade-offs in materials, hardness, composites, treatments, coatings, and other selections to best meet design objectives. Works with materials suppliers and material testing when needed. Applies experience and knowledge, and works with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced parts counts, reduced manufacturing costs, reduced assembly error, and other factors affecting production cost and quality. Understands Bills of Materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications. Ensures designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and FAA requirements. Adheres to budget and project schedules. Provides design guidance and feedback to other engineering personnel. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in mechanical design practices, materials, components, and software design tools. Independently finds or creates solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness, and creativity. Works with the Design Department to develop esthetic product designs that meet the market need and customer acceptance. Provides liaison engineering support. Supports test setups preparation and test reports development. Maintains regular attendance including being at work, being on time to work, and working full shifts. Other duties as assigned.
