Senior Mechanical Designer
About The Position
SuperbTech, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to support capital construction and maintenance projects at a large industrial facility. Working under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer and with technical direction from project engineers, this person will develop initial design concepts, preliminary and detailed layouts, and final drawings suitable for bidding and construction. The role has a strong civil and mechanical design focus, particularly mechanical piping and equipment, with work spanning structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
Requirements
- 5 to 7 years of relevant designer-level experience developing construction drawings for civil and mechanical projects.
- Proficiency with a current version of MicroStation.
- Demonstrated experience developing mechanical piping and equipment layouts, plans, profiles, sections, and details.
- Experience preparing or checking drawings involving civil and mechanical systems, with exposure to structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
- Working knowledge of current construction methods, materials, industry standards, and applicable codes.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate specifications, drawing callouts, and notes.
- Ability to coordinate complex design work and deliver drawings suitable for bidding and construction.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with ProjectWise and document management systems.
- Familiarity with CAD file structures and conventions, including symbology, fonts, levels, tags, cells, and patterns.
- Experience with industrial facilities, utilities, water or wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas, refineries, or similar projects.
- Experience with field survey methods and equipment.
- Ability to develop grading and drainage plans; lay out horizontal and vertical curves; and calculate or balance cuts and fills.
- Experience developing piping plans, profiles, and stationing.
- Ability to preliminarily size and detail reinforced concrete, including reinforcing steel placement.
- Experience developing structural and miscellaneous steel plans, sections, and details, including welding symbols and callouts.
- Experience preparing electrical and instrumentation drawings and details.
Responsibilities
- Develop initial design concepts and layouts through preliminary design, detailed design, and final contract drawings.
- Prepare complex plans, elevations, profiles, sections, and details for capital construction and maintenance projects.
- Develop piping and equipment layouts, including the selection or design of materials, fittings, and supports that account for operability and maintainability.
- Prepare and check civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
- Apply discipline-specific typical details, drafting standards, specifications, callouts, and notes.
- Prepare material takeoffs and support the development of project quantities.
- Conduct field investigations and occasional field surveys to verify conditions and support design decisions.
- Provide technical guidance to drafting technicians and coordinate work performed by drafting consultants.
- Estimate design effort, set drafting priorities, and manage multiple complex assignments with limited supervisory guidance.
