About The Position

Sedgman is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Designer, with hands-on experience on projects ranging from conceptual design to detailed engineering. This person will be based out of our Vancouver office. The ideal incumbent will have robust experience in detailed design and layout of mineral processing and ore handling systems in mining/heavy industrial projects. The Senior Mechanical Designer works on a diverse array of projects across the Mineral Processing industry. You'll be involved in the entire design process, from concept to detailed design, with a clear focus on Mechanical expertise. Come join a growing business and a winning team!

Requirements

  • Associate Diploma in CAD / Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Must have 8+ years industry experience in a design / consultancy environment, preferably supporting mining, minerals processing, or heavy industries.
  • Experience with projects from conceptual design through to detailed engineering.
  • Strong expertise in Auto CAD 3D software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Advance Steel, Navisworks) is essential.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Previous MS Office skills

Responsibilities

  • Complete detailed design of equipment and plant layouts from sketches or specification outlines in the mechanical field under direction of engineers or a supervising designer.
  • Create 3D designs from complex, multidiscipline engineering concepts.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, offering guidance on complex design challenges, modelling standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct and lead design reviews, proactively identifying risks, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, relevant standards, and client requirements.
  • Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design.
  • Prepare drawings of designs relating to plant, equipment, services or other facilities or structures.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system.
  • Ensure engineering designs follow the standard Sedgman design workflows, systems and procedures.
  • Provide drafting support to the project teams in line with management direction from them whilst maximising individual and teams utilisation.
  • Focus on meeting expectations for schedule, quality and client satisfaction.
  • Check drafting deliverables for accuracy, completeness and adherence to design specifications & intent.
  • Apply attention and diligence to uphold quality standards, and client requirements, to complete tasks efficiently.
