About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Detroit, MI to lead large and highly complex mechanical projects for the vertical building industry, with a strong focus on HVAC systems. In this role, you will provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client guidance while leading engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems. You’ll also mentor and train less experienced staff, collaborate across disciplines, manage project budgets, and have the opportunity to grow through a technical, project management, marketing, or business development leadership path.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
7 years of experience minimum required, in the building design consulting industry
Mastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports
Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong relationships
Conduct in-process design reviews of system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence while applying IMEG quality control processes
Provide technical training, mentoring, and field issue support with minimal support from senior staff
Lead research, development, and innovation efforts while staying current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices
Identify and mitigate potential safety risks and prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions
