About The Position

The Advanced Airframes department is seeking a CAD Design/Drafting Engineer to enhance our Modeling, Design and Drafting capability. The candidate will perform a wide variety of design tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations. This is an onsite role, located in Tucson, AZ.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with 3D CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) tools (PRO/E Creo preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years’ engineering and/or design experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn and use internal tools
  • Ability to work in a team environment with timely problem resolution utilizing a professional, positive, proactive attitude, strong customer focus, and a desire to help others
  • Mechanical design experience may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing, and mechanisms
  • Process for documentation preparation

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers to propose, design, develop, integrate, and document within the mechanical design department.
  • Communicate with engineering team members and suppliers to design, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements.
  • Act as the responsible design authority under limited supervision.
  • Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings and models (including but not limited to packaging, mechanisms, and castings) and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and military specifications.
  • Responsible for control and release of drawings/models using data management tools such as PDM and Windchill.
  • Identify and correct design, model, or drawing errors/omissions/deficiencies and recommend corrective actions or improvements.
  • Use CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling CAD tool and Common PDM data management (cPDM) tool.
  • Apply basic principles, theories and concepts for creation and preparation of engineering design documentation.
  • Perform tasks such as preparation/changes to drawings/models and create new 3D models and drawings with general direction.
  • Apply understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to convey design intent models/drawings.
  • Utilize industry practices and standards used in drafting, modeling and design development/revision.
  • Interpret, apply, and make decisions regarding the application of documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-31000, Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100.
