Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract / Temporary – Onsite)
About The Position
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (contract/temporary) to support ongoing product development and improvement efforts. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role centered on improving existing designs, building hardware, and driving real-world performance. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience, strong Onshape proficiency, and thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative onsite environment. This role is critical to driving near-term design execution, product improvements, and reliability gains. You will directly influence the performance and success of systems deployed in real-world environments.
Requirements
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience
- Strong proficiency with Onshape (required)
- Experience across key domains: machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, mechanisms, power transmission, and thermal systems
- Experience with testing, debugging, and iterative design
- Strong understanding of DFM and practical manufacturing considerations
- Hands-on capability, including building and validating designs independently
- Experience with electromechanical systems and system integration
- Ability to adapt and improve existing designs
- Comfortable working onsite in a collaborative environment
Nice To Haves
- Experience with large weldments and structural design (FEA a plus)
- Experience working around rotating machinery
- Background in reliability, failure analysis, or assembly/test process development
Responsibilities
- Design and improve components and systems based on existing products (“like design”)
- Develop and release mechanical designs using Onshape
- Drive improvements in performance, manufacturability, and reliability
- Support testing, root cause analysis, and design iteration
- Prototype and evaluate alternative design approaches
- Contribute to system integration (mechanisms, motion systems, assemblies)
- Develop and refine assembly and test processes
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams
- Build, assemble, and validate prototypes and hardware hands-on
