We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert in structural design and analysis for engine nacelles both in service and under development for future platforms. This individual will lead complex engineering projects, provide technical direction, and mentor junior engineers while driving innovative design solutions that meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical or aerospace design engineering, preferably in propulsion systems or nacelles.
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (CATIA V5/V6 preferred; SolidWorks or NX acceptable) and understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with GD&T practices, tolerance stack‑ups, root cause analysis, design for manufacturability principles, and relevant aerospace industry standards.
  • Experience with leading or contributing to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Enovia, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for structural design topics related to engine nacelles across in-service and new development programs.
  • Lead and execute complex structural design projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, certification requirements, and program objectives.
  • Develop high-quality 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using advanced CAD tools.
  • Support the design and development of advanced nacelle structures for future aircraft platforms, including conceptual design, feasibility studies, and technology maturation.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical oversight to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering growth and ensuring high-quality engineering output.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Stress, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Operations and Program Management teams.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, reviews, and documentation for internal and external customers.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies early in the design phase.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering processes, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
