About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. On the Crew Systems product team, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer works with Responsible Engineers to develop Crew Systems products for the MK2 Crew Lander. The engineer creates and manages CAD models, 2D drawings, and model-based definition (MBD) files for parts and assemblies, and works with manufacturing teams to define build plans and ensure components are manufacturable. The role also includes mentoring early-career designers and reviewing drafting across the team. The position contributes to developing the MK2 Crew Lander to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence beyond Earth.

  • Expertise creating 2D drawings and/or MBD for components and assemblies.
  • Deep knowledge of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance standards, including applying them in tolerance stack-up analysis across assemblies.
  • Experience applying Design for X principles for manufacturability and cost.
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience or familiarity with first-order structural analysis for initial sizing.
