About The Position

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an experienced Mechanic (Senior Mechanic, Lead Mechanic, or Senior Lead Mechanic) within the Environmental Dredging and Restoration (EDR) Group. This position is located at the Poplar Island facility on the Chesapeake Bay near Tilghman, Maryland, in Talbot County. Responsibilities include installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including heavy equipment, pumps, crew boats, and vehicles, as needed. This position may require the ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and during adverse weather conditions. Position requires riding to and from site on a crew boat.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school or possession of GED equivalency certificate.
  • Senior Mechanic: five (5) years of experience performing installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Lead Mechanic: seven (7) years of experience performing installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Senior Lead Mechanic: nine (8) years of experience performing installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintenance of pontoon equipment, large pumps, bulldozers, excavators, articulated dump trucks, water trucks, fuel trucks, boats, and light trucks.
  • Knowledge of computers and maintenance tracking software.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including heavy equipment, pumps, crew boats, and vehicles, as needed.
  • May require management of supervisory and non-supervisory Mechanic positions.
  • May include responsibilities for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of managed staff, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, delegating, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
