About The Position

The City of Gunnison is looking for a Senior Meals Assistant Cook to join their team at the Gunnison Senior Center. This role involves cooking, baking, preparing food, packaging meals for delivery, pick-up, and in-person service, and cleaning kitchen equipment and dishware. It's an opportunity to make a difference in the community by providing nourishment to local seniors. This position is estimated to work 18 hours per week.

Requirements

Experience working in a commercial kitchen, cooking and baking for large groups receiving individual servings.
Current ServSafe manager’s level certification is required (training will be supported if necessary).
Very comfortable working with and following recipes, as well as creating recipes.
Solid experience working in a commercial kitchen setting as a prep cook, a cook, and/or a baker.
Knowledge of and experience with a wide variety of large-batch commercial baking techniques, including desserts and breads.
Knowledge and ability to use a wide variety of commercial kitchen appliances, tools, and machinery.
Ability to handle large and often heavier kitchen appliances.
Ability to work well as a member of a diverse team and in a fast-paced environment with regular deadlines to meet.
Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing at an appropriate level for the position.

Responsibilities

Cook, bake, prep food, and package meals for delivery, pick-up, and in-person service.
Clean kitchen equipment and dishware.
Bake a wide variety of breads, desserts, and other items.
Prep and cook main and side dishes as needed.
Organize and prepare other foods as needed.
Coordinate with the Head Cook on all needed kitchen duties, including cleaning and menu prep.
Fill in for other Assistant Cooks or the Head Cook on occasion.
Work with other Senior Meals team members in a respectful, collegial, and timely fashion.
Assist in packing all meals for delivery.
Serve meals to clients eating in the Senior Center.
Train and supervise kitchen assistants and volunteers on a regular basis, under the general supervision of the Head Cook for Senior Meals.
