About The Position

This role is at the center of WSP's growing Materials Engineering practice, shaping WSP’s presence across British Columbia, Canada, and globally. The position requires deep technical expertise in concrete and construction materials, and will act as a trusted advisor to clients, industry partners, and internal teams. This role blends high-impact project delivery, business development leadership, and mentoring, influencing both the growth of the Vancouver practice and the development of future materials engineers. Working closely with the Materials Engineering Manager, the individual will help set strategic priorities, expand the client base, and contribute to significant infrastructure projects in BC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Materials Engineering with a focus on construction materials.
  • 10+ years of materials engineering experience in Canada.
  • Deep technical expertise in concrete design, condition assessment, rehabilitation, and materials testing to CSA and ASTM standards.
  • Proven ability to independently lead complex technical assignments while balancing client, schedule, and budget priorities.
  • Demonstrated business development capability, including client management, proposal leadership, and industry networking.
  • Registered P.Eng. with EGBC (or eligible).
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work in varied field conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s or Ph.D. in Civil or Materials Engineering.
  • British Columbia experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver materials engineering consulting services across industrial, commercial, municipal, transportation, and residential projects in BC, Canada, and globally.
  • Lead technical work in concrete, aggregates, asphalt pavement, durability, soils, and condition assessments.
  • Prepare and review specifications, contract documents, proposals, and technical reports.
  • Develop and validate concrete mix designs, pavement designs, structural repair strategies, and mass concrete thermal mitigation solutions.
  • Perform and oversee non-destructive evaluation, service-life modelling, and durability assessments of concrete structures.
  • Support business growth through client engagement, proposal development, industry participation, and mentoring junior engineers.
