About The Position

Zeno Power is seeking a Senior Material Scientist to support development and commercialization of Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS). The role leads research and development in advanced materials, including metals and ceramics, and improvements to chemical products, processes, and materials. The scientist develops materials-testing requirements and procedures, conducts testing and analysis, and works with cross-functional teams on material selection and qualification for heat-source and power-system designs. The position also includes mentoring technicians, preparing laboratory solutions and reagents, writing technical reports, contributing to patents and publications, sharing knowledge internally, and supporting Zeno Power Systems' safety culture. The role is based in a hybrid work environment, with in-office presence in Seattle's South Lake Union on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Remote work is generally optional Mondays and Fridays, though occasional lab work may require office attendance on those days. Travel is required at less than 10%.

  • Strong understanding of structure-property-processing relationships.
  • Strong background in chemistry, material compatibility, and mechanical testing.
  • Knowledge of ceramic material processes, such as pelletization.
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency with materials characterization and analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong problem-solving, project-management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a self-starter, coordinate and contribute to design efforts with minimal direction, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure in an uncertain environment.
