Lead Scientist: Material Development

GE Vernova•Oneonta, NY
•$91,700 - $152,700

About The Position

The Lead Scientist conducts fundamental and applied research to support development of next-generation chemical materials and processes for energy storage products. The work includes developing and modifying high-performance active materials; designing and synthesizing high-purity chemical formulations; and characterizing material and system performance. The role may also involve fundamental research into advanced electrochemical systems, including Lithium Ion Capacitors, Lithium Ion Batteries, and other hybrid energy storage technologies. The position develops and optimizes electrode materials and structures, supports prototype-cell construction and testing, and studies material stability, reactivity, and degradation. The Lead Scientist works with cross-functional engineering and scientific teams to translate research findings into practical product improvements and maintains laboratory records in accordance with company standards.

Requirements

  • PhD or master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Physical Chemistry, or a related field, with 2–5 years of industrial experience desired; relevant postdoctoral experience may be considered in lieu of industrial experience.
  • A bachelor's degree with 10 or more years of relevant industry experience may be considered as an alternative to the PhD or master's degree requirement.
  • Ability to work within and contribute to cross-functional development teams, including engineers and scientists.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
