About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who work on challenging problems impacting the supply chain. The Senior Material and Processes Engineer will partner with Design Engineers to identify correct materials and processes for Data Center systems, aiming for world-class uptime. This role drives continuous advancements and improvements in engineering designs, communicates technical direction to senior management, and seeks ways to enhance reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Engineers at Amazon have the ability to drive change and make a substantial impact on the systems customers rely on. This position is part of a global data center engineering team focused on design and continuous innovation within a rapidly expanding data center footprint.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities

Responsibilities

  • Broad materials & processes support for metallic and/or composite materials including: forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, friction welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation; solid and sandwich laminates.
  • Support design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification for data center systems.
  • Review production drawing for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to the established requirements.
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts, including development of specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates.
  • Contribute to the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification.
  • Work with cross-functional teams within the organization and other business units.
