About The Position

Worley Canada Construction is a leader in industrial construction across Alberta and western Canada. Our employees build exciting careers in fabrication, modularization, modularization, field installation, and professional support services for some of the world’s most challenging energy, infrastructure, and industrial projects. Worley Canada Construction is currently seeking Material Planners to support project execution by ensuring materials are defined, structured, and prepared within the materials management system in advance of construction activities. The Material Planner is responsible for the upstream planning and system setup of materials data to ensure construction readiness. This role is accountable for establishing accurate material requirements, structuring material data within the materials management system (SiteSense), and ensuring alignment between engineering deliverables, procurement data, and construction needs. The Material Planner enables effective field execution by ensuring materials are visible, traceable, and properly configured in the system prior to receipt and use on site.

Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary education or a recognized technical or trades certification
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in industrial construction, with strong exposure to materials management, planning, or engineering interfaces
  • Demonstrated experience working with material take-offs (MTOs), drawings, and technical specifications
  • Strong understanding of industrial materials (pipe, valves, fittings, instrumentation, structural steel, equipment, electrical components)
  • Experience with materials management systems (e.g., SiteSense, AVEVA ERM, SAP, JD Edwards), with focus on data setup and structure
  • Analytical Thinking – Interprets engineering and procurement data to develop structured material solutions
  • Ownership – Takes accountability for data accuracy and readiness
  • Systems Thinking – Understands how material data flows across engineering, procurement, and construction
  • Communication – Clearly communicates requirements, risks, and gaps across teams
  • Proactive Mindset – Identifies issues early and drives resolution before execution impact

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting fabrication, modularization, or field execution environments (asset)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with data tools, reporting, or Power Apps (Power Query, Power BI) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate material requirements based on engineering deliverables (e.g., MTOs, drawings, specifications)
  • Structure material data for system loading, including tagging, breakdown, and hierarchy (e.g., FIWP alignment, piece marks, tag-level detail)
  • Ensure material data is complete, accurate, and consistent prior to system entry
  • Define and maintain material identification structures to support tracking, traceability, and reporting
  • Lead the setup of materials within the materials management system to support construction tracking and reporting
  • Ensure materials are properly configured to enable receiving, issuing, and reporting workflows
  • Validate that system structure aligns with construction execution logic (e.g., FIWP-level visibility, work package alignment)
  • Maintain data quality standards and governance across material records
  • Interface with engineering teams to ensure material take-offs are accurate, structured, and usable for downstream execution
  • Support procurement by aligning material data with purchase orders, vendor documentation, and delivery expectations
  • Identify and resolve gaps between engineering outputs, procurement data, and system requirements
  • Ensure subcontractor-supplied materials are incorporated into the materials system in advance of delivery
  • Analyze material availability against construction schedules and workface planning requirements
  • Identify upcoming material constraints, data gaps, or risks prior to impacting field execution
  • Support readiness reporting by ensuring materials are visible and aligned to construction priorities ahead of time
  • Coordinate with Material Controllers and Construction teams to ensure smooth handoff from planning to execution
  • Establish and maintain standards for material data structure, naming conventions, and system setup
  • Identify recurring issues in engineering, procurement, or data setup processes and recommend improvements
  • Support the development of procedures, templates, and best practices for material planning and system configuration
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to materials management systems and processes
