About The Position

The Senior Marketing Writer and Editor will uphold writing standards for the organization with meticulous attention to consistency, factual accuracy, voice, tone, spelling, and grammar. They will edit all major outbound marketing communications while crafting clear, bold, and engaging pieces of written content that are on brand and meet the organization’s long-term strategic objectives. This position plays a critical role in attracting prospective supporters and energizing existing ones by positioning our organization as the go-to hunger-relief organization in the region by clearly communicating the impact of our work, sharing inspiring stories, and promoting opportunities to engage with us regularly. The Senior Marketing Writer and Editor plays a critical role on a highly motivated, talented, and fun creative team that’s laser focused on the Food Bank’s mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, creative writing, or a marketing-related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of experience in brand messaging, content writing, and editing
  • Expert in Associated Press writing style
  • Demonstrates compassion, respect, and sensitivity in working with all community members
  • Strong research, interviewing, and marketing skills
  • Expertise with Asana or other project management tools and editorial calendars
  • Previous experience working in non-profit or other mission-driven organizations
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and time‑sensitive tasks in a dynamic, collaborative environment
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand the English language fluently, and communicate verbally and in writing professionally

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead writer and editor for Food Bank of the Rockies’ highest-stakes internal and external communications: newsletters, emails, annual reports, thought leadership pieces, blog posts, event collateral, direct mail, brochures, gift acknowledgement letters, speeches, high-level presentations, and change communications
  • Regularly update organizational writing standards and train staff on our writing style
  • Take an active role in mentoring staff and providing constructive feedback on their writing
  • Creatively interpret programmatic work and data into clear, compelling stories that educate and inspire our key audiences to meet strategic goals
  • Proactively gather neighbor stories at food distributions across the region
  • Proofread materials to ensure exceptional quality and consistency in style, tone, and language across the organization
  • Interview beneficiaries of our programs (neighbors), organizational partners, staff members, donors, and others for storytelling and testimonial usage
  • Manage freelance writers and editors across Wyoming and Colorado
  • Maintain a project calendar for all written projects in the department’s project management platform (Asana)
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Marketing and other internal stakeholders to define strategic content priorities
  • Continually craft copy that is fresh, creative, and engaging with the goal of inspiring audiences to volunteer, donate, advocate, and/or generally get involved with Food Bank of the Rockies’ mission
  • Tailor voice and style of copy to fit a variety of audiences and platforms
  • Maintain knowledge of communication and storytelling trends
  • Develop ideas for feature articles, interviews, presentations, and other written content that promote awareness of the organization and its impact
  • Build strong and collaborative working relationships with all staff members who serve as subject matter experts and content resources to ensure effective and up-to-date communications messaging
  • Ensure that strengths-based messaging and community-centered values shine through in the language we use and the stories we share
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve creative workflows that support timely, consistent, and high-quality written communications across the organization
