About The Position

The Finance, Governance and Capital Policy Sector within the Financial Services and Capital Planning Division of Alberta’s Ministry of Education and Childcare plays a central role in supporting school business operations, advancing capital planning and policy, and delivering strategic initiatives across the ministry. Requirements

  • University graduation in English, Journalism, Professional Writing for a related field with no experience required; or equivalent as described below.
  • Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to analyze complex, multifaceted issues and develop effective solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly, concisely, and in plain language
  • Advanced writing and editing skills for preparing briefings, memos, and correspondence for diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple priorities, competing demands, and tight deadlines
  • Ability to synthesize complex and diverse information into clear, actionable insights
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship‑building, and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent research and analytical skills to validate information and monitor trends, risks, and emerging issues
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all deliverables
  • Strong coordination, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills to manage information requests and timelines effectively

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver strategic written communications, including briefing notes, key messages, and presentations
  • Manage and coordinate Action Requests (ARs) to ensure timely, accurate, and aligned responses
  • Monitor emerging issues, trends, and external environments to support proactive issue management
  • Provide strategic advice on risks, impacts, and communications positioning to leadership
  • Liaise with the ADM office, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to coordinate responses
  • Draft and review correspondence for executive, ministerial, and public audiences
  • Ensure all communications are clear, consistent, and compliant with legislation and policies
  • Analyze complex issues and develop integrated responses for sensitive or high‑profile matters
  • Track deliverables and manage workflows to meet tight deadlines and competing priorities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to support information sharing and collaboration
  • Support executive decision‑making through high‑quality analysis and recommendations
  • Oversee quality control of briefing materials and ensure alignment with government priorities
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication processes and information management practices
  • Support coordination of sector operations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
