Creative and detail-oriented front-line communications and marketing professionals are sought for client-facing career development and experiential education initiatives, including job/internship fairs, employer and alumni career activities. The successful incumbent creates and maintains a consistent, high-quality content strategy for the Career Center across print and digital platforms, ensuring alignment with university branding standards, accessibility guidelines, and effectively engages target audiences. Manages the Career Center’s communications internships, providing supervision and mentoring to Marketing Coordinator and undergraduate and graduate student paraprofessionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Three (3) years of full time work experience in marketing/promotions, public relations, and/or communications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising professional or student staff.
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop or similar design suite.
  • Experience managing social media and creating content for digital platforms.
  • Experience utilizing a content management system for website design and content updates (i.e. OU campus).
  • Experience measuring outcomes of marketing campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Manage departmental marketing and outreach efforts (career fairs, workshops/programs/company informational) with a team of interns.
  • Develop and produce web, print, and video content.
  • Write profiles/student success stories and articles that create awareness and highlight accomplishments.
  • Generate marketing materials aligned with brand guidelines.
  • Write new web content, edit existing content, and develop new sections as needed within the CMS.
  • Develop and deploy social media strategy.
  • Analyze effectiveness of strategies.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate and provide ongoing professional development for the Career Center Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
  • Prioritize duties and responsibilities based on team members' strengths and expertise and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise undergraduate and graduate marketing, graphics, and communications interns.
  • Liaise with faculty sponsors to ensure student achievement of learning objectives.
  • Draft key messages and talking points as requested by departmental leadership.
  • Develop cooperative relationships within the university (faculty, staff) and externally (employers, alumni) to identify opportunities that advance the Career Center’s brand and reputation.
  • Work closely with the CRAFT team and marketing and communications partners and participate in university-wide initiatives to enhance Career Center visibility and awareness throughout the University and beyond.
  • Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
  • Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside your department/unit (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, programs).
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
