Caterpillar Remanufacturing Division currently has an opening for a Senior Manager of Manufacturing Operations located in the Prentiss (Booneville), Mississippi, Facility. The Senior Manager of Manufacturing Operations directs the Reman operation: disassembly, clean, inspection, reclaim, assembly, testing and shipping of engine components in accordance with shipping orders. Initiates actions to overcome impediments causing delays. Accountable for People Safety, Product Quality, Velocity and Cost, as well as collaboration with support groups (safety, engineering, supply chain, human resources, etc.) as needed to ensure operational excellence. The Senior Manager of Manufacturing Operations also contributes to the total manufacturing effort by directing and controlling several operations from fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, test, and shipping. Ensures production schedules can be met in a Lean Manufacturing environment to satisfy assembly line and parts schedule requirements. In addition, this position initiates action to prevent manufacturing and assembly line shut-downs by authorizing overtime and informing maintenance or machine repair personnel of priorities, alerting Planning or Tooling to manufacturing process changes, etc. The Senior Manager of Manufacturing Operations strives to attain their primary responsibility of maintaining high performance and minimizing costs. Analyzes burden and efficiency data to isolate problems and improve performance and costs. Performs on-going evaluation of workloads and assists Production Managers in solving problems related to quality, work effort, grievances, cost drivers and general overall attitudes. The position also develops the budget for assigned area and offers constructive recommendations on the selection and promotion of personnel to fill openings. The incumbent is responsible for action to study specific problems to reduce costs or improve quality.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience desired
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Performance Management: Knowledge of successful performance management techniques; ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked and implemented, and any roadblocks are eliminated.
  • Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogs with Senior Production Managers, Production Managers, Team Leads and individual contributors.
  • Develops detailed near-term and long-term production plans.
  • Drives root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, production.
  • Performs periodic audits for safety behavior, 5S, quality and MQ12005, standard work, productivity and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Manages a multiple-shift operation with responsibility for all shifts.
  • Oversees coordination of material, equipment, manpower and quality results with this position as well as meeting schedule requirements.
  • Responsible for work direction, problem solving and coordination with support departments.
  • Determines budget requirements, cost savings projects, forecasting production needs and ensuring quality standards are maintained rests with this position.
  • Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, affirmative action, etc. in performing assigned duties.
  • Ensures the compliance of all regulatory guidelines and forges a safe and sound manufacturing environment.
  • Manages staffing, development, and performance management programs for operations staff; managing, motivating, and developing management team.
  • Oversees operations activities, ensuring that safety, schedules and performance requirements are met and system resources are used effectively.
  • Drives improvements for overall operations performance and implementing production safety, cost, and quality control mechanisms.
