About The Position

Ontic's Chatsworth, CA, site specializes in precision engineering, MRO, and new solutions for parts at risk of obsolescence. This role focuses on sustaining engineering activities, including troubleshooting issues, implementing design updates, and ensuring continued product performance and reliability. The engineer will work closely with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges that arise during production and field use. Responsibilities include evaluating existing designs, identifying root causes of issues, and developing practical, compliant solutions while maintaining configuration control and adherence to engineering standards. This position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer who can quickly assess problems, navigate existing documentation and constraints, and execute effective solutions in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing using commercial platforms (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent FEA tools
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation and drawing standards
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person ” as defined by 22. C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise engineering drawings, technical reports, and procedures
  • Create 3D models and detailed 2D drawings for parts and assemblies using CAD tools
  • Perform mechanical design and analysis, including FEA for stress, strain, and displacement
  • Support design validation and product qualification efforts, including prototype fabrication and testing
  • Coordinate planning and scheduling of major engineering activities
  • Interface directly with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to communicate project status and technical details
  • Contribute to design concept development, trade studies, and engineering evaluations
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional, matrixed engineering environment
