About The Position

Xcimer Energy is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for its capacitor production line in Tucson, Arizona. This role is responsible for the health of the manufacturing processes, focusing on wound film capacitors that power the company's pulsed-power laser drivers. The position is floor-facing, with a focus on a line that is currently producing and scaling towards higher rates. The ideal candidate is dedicated to quality, process adherence, and continuous improvement, aiming to enhance the manufacturing line's performance weekly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials, or Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience supporting active production.
  • Direct responsibility for yield, rate, or process capability on a line that was shipping product.
  • Demonstrated record of measurable process improvement on a running line.
  • Demonstrated commitment to process discipline: experience writing and enforcing work instructions, operating within change control, and holding a documented standard under schedule pressure.
  • Fluency in structured problem solving and root cause corrective action, with the judgment to know when a root cause has been proven.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control, process capability, and practical data analysis.
  • Experience in electronics, capacitor, high-voltage, or precision manufacturing.
  • Credibility with operators and technicians, and effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency with a manufacturing execution system (MES) or ERP and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be able to satisfy Xcimer's pre-employment background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Film and foil capacitor manufacturing
  • High-voltage capacitor production
  • Winding operations and margin control
  • Metallization by twin-wire arc or flame spray, and swaging
  • Vacuum drying and impregnation processes
  • Resin potting or oil-filled capacitor assembly
  • Electrical acceptance and dielectric withstand (HiPot) testing
  • Pulsed power, high-energy-density, Marx generator, or pulse-forming network applications
  • Scaling a line from pilot build to rate production
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification
  • PFMEA and control plan development
  • ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems
  • Establishing an operator qualification program from scratch
  • A modern cloud MES such as Boltline
  • Mentoring engineers or technicians, or building a small engineering team

Responsibilities

  • Own the process execution for released manufacturing processes on the capacitor line, including authoring and maintaining work plans, work cards, setup sheets, and stage inspections.
  • Ensure released revision documentation accurately reflects actual line operations, converting tribal knowledge into documented, repeatable, and verified standard work.
  • Define and maintain process capability baselines and establish necessary measurements to ensure processes are in control.
  • Own production yield and first-pass yield, monitoring and reducing scrap, rework, and defect rates through verified process changes.
  • Lead structured root cause corrective action (RCCA) for process-driven escapes and failures, ensuring verified and sustained closure.
  • Investigate electrical acceptance test failures, distinguishing isolated defects from systemic process drift.
  • Partner with Quality on the disposition of nonconforming material and technical content of NCR dispositions.
  • Apply statistical process control and data analysis to reduce variation, integrating data collection into the process.
  • Contribute to and maintain PFMEAs for owned processes and close generated actions.
  • Audit the floor against documented standard work, identifying and rectifying documentation or training defects.
  • Drive day-to-day process improvements to increase yield, shorten cycle time, reduce cost, and stabilize output.
  • Address constraints impacting weekly output, focusing on areas like vacuum drying, impregnation, and electrical acceptance testing.
  • Lead Lean initiatives focused on flow, waste reduction, and setup time, and sustain 5S standards.
  • Improve manufacturability of existing parts through the engineering change process, with clear justification.
  • Build improvements with a sustainment plan, including updated documentation, operator retraining, defined measurements, and audits.
  • Quantify improvements honestly, including unsuccessful attempts, and maintain a visible record of efforts.
  • Own the process side of production equipment, including setup parameters, operating limits, and qualification after maintenance.
  • Partner with Maintenance on preventive maintenance, failure analysis, and spares for constraint operations.
  • Specify, procure, install, and qualify tooling, fixtures, and process equipment to improve capability or rate.
  • Evaluate automation and mechanization opportunities, assessing their impact on variation or bottlenecks.
  • Manage process changes through change control, ensuring updated work instructions, qualification results, operator retraining, and documented approval.
  • Re-qualify affected operators on every process change and maintain alignment of group membership and training matrices.
  • Support the qualification and transition of new processes into production, accepting ownership only when ready.
  • Host development and experimental runs on production equipment, balancing against build demand.
  • Reinitiate job hazard analysis for process, material, or equipment changes and ensure safety case currency.
  • Design and operate processes so the safe method is the standard method, verifying control implementation.
  • Address specific hazards (solvents, oils, resins, elevated temperatures, stored energy) through engineering controls first.
  • Support safety incident investigations with process analysis and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policy, supporting the production organization's authority over safe operation.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance
  • Paid parental leave
  • Short and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 6%
  • 15 days of Paid Time Off per year
