About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for reviewing and improving manufacturing processes, focusing on reducing set-up and changeover times, increasing equipment uptime, and driving continuous process improvements. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate closely with various departments, including Production, Maintenance, Purchasing, Marketing, and R&D, to implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), setup instructions, training, and troubleshoot processes and equipment. A key aspect of this role involves consulting with the Safety team to design and implement safety devices and lead necessary changes to processes and equipment. The engineer will also analyze and reduce scrap and rework, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and monitor results in conjunction with the Quality department. This position provides essential manufacturing engineering input for product line start-ups and upgrades to existing facilities and processes. The role also involves initiating cost reduction proposals, providing project management, tracking projects, and organizing teams to complete tasks. Responsibilities include designing tools, jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing systems, supporting new product development, identifying and assisting in procuring better tools and equipment, and creating layouts for buildings, product lines, and manufacturing systems. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will also submit Capital Expense Budget proposals, serve as an implementation/cost advisor for continuous improvement suggestions, and assist in training on new processes. Performing inspections on parts, components, tooling, and equipment using metrology tools, establishing and monitoring manufacturing process metrics, and developing/implementing testing and in-process inspection procedures are also key duties. Finally, the role involves suggesting, project managing, and acquiring automation equipment, from semi-custom to full custom work centers, including planning, specifying, troubleshooting, justifying, and organizing cross-functional activities for production launch.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) in an engineering related field from four-year college or university
  • 7 to 10 years minimum experience in a manufacturing engineering environment
  • Experience in the design of dies and tools for forming metal
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and concerns
  • Experience in developing training for engineers, maintenance, and production personnel
  • Ability to develop preventative maintenance programs
  • Experience in purchasing capital equipment and running capital projects
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and make presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables for problem solving
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft suite applications

Responsibilities

  • Review manufacturing processes and implement cost effective improvements focusing on set-up and changeover time reductions and equipment uptime, and process improvements on a continual basis.
  • Support and work closely with Production, Maintenance Purchasing, Marketing, R&D, and many other functions of the company, with implementing SOP’s, setup instructions, training and debugging problem processes and equipment.
  • Consult Safety team, advise, design, and implement safety devices and lead changes to processes and equipment where and when necessary.
  • Analyze and reduce scrap and rework; identify reasons for scrap, implement corrective actions to reduce and monitor results, working with Quality department.
  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering input during product line start-ups and upgrading of existing production facilities, and processes.
  • Initiate cost reduction proposals in materials, manufacturing processes and product design.
  • Provide project management and project tracking and updates to the project team, as well as being able to organize a team to complete tasks and projects.
  • Design tools, jigs, fixtures, and complete manufacturing systems up to and including all existing and new processes company wide.
  • Support new product development with manufacturing introduction of changes.
  • Identify and assist in procuring better tools, fixtures, and equipment for manufacturing.
  • Do layouts of buildings, product lines and manufacturing systems.
  • Submit initial proposal of Capital Expense Budgets for projects & in areas assigned.
  • Serve as implementation/cost advisor to all continuous improvement suggestions in areas assigned.
  • Assist in training if needed on new processes or process improvements.
  • Perform inspections on parts, components, tooling, and equipment using common metrology tools. (micrometers, calipers, optical comparator, etc.)
  • Establish and monitor metrics for manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and implement procedures for testing/in-process inspection to assure quality at the source.
  • Suggest, project manage, and acquire automation equipment. Equipment ranges from semi-custom to full custom work centers. Ability to plan, specify, troubleshoot, justify, and organize the cross functional activities for launch into production.
