About The Position

The Senior Manual Machinist will set up and operate turret or engine lathes, with a strong preference for manual mill machines. This role will perform all machining operations that are subject to short lead times and close tolerances on a continuous basis, such as air products. You will work to exact tolerances, determine speeds and feeds, and recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors. In this role, you must be able to cut internal and external threads. The hours for this shift are: 6:00 am - 2:30 am M-F.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 7+ years of experience in manual machining
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Experience machining finish-grade components to tight tolerances
  • Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Mathematics — Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Equipment Selection — Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Ability to review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.
  • Ability to set-up manual machines and/or program CNC machines independently.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Regularly required to stand and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and taste or smell.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Reads process sheets, blueprints and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up and operating requirements.
  • Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck or to faceplate.
  • Observes numerical displays to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds of machining cuts.
  • Inspect run pieces and spot check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
  • Uses measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers and ccm for conformance to specifications.
  • Machines bronze, stainless, plastics and other materials.
