Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in education, economics, public policy, sociology, statistics, or a related field or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
  • Six or more years of professional experience conducting education research or program or policy support.
  • Current or recent professional experience as an education practitioner, such as a teacher, school administrator, or district or state education agency staff.
  • Significant experience working with state and local education agencies and interested parties (such as schools, education nonprofits, and educators) across the country to develop, measure, and achieve outcomes through research-practice partnerships, training, technical assistance, initiative or curriculum development, program or policy support, or continuous improvement work.
  • Demonstrated expertise, including a portfolio of published work, in approaches for improving educational outcomes in one or more areas, such as educator preparation and professional development, high quality instructional materials, school improvement strategies, special education services, or college and career readiness programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective adult learning, coaching, change management, and/or continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead activities, manage and coordinate work of multidisciplinary teams through the project lifecycle to deliver high-quality work to clients on time and budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to aggregate, analyze, synthesize, and present education data and evidence from multiple sources to support program improvement, performance measurement, decision-making, and actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience communicating research questions, approaches, and findings in non-technical language to educators, school district leaders, state and federal agencies, foundations, and/or non-profits.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high-quality presentations, client correspondence and memoranda, technical assistance materials, and other client- or public-facing products.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, and meet project timelines.
  • Strong managerial skills of both projects and staff, including mentoring and developing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support program improvement, research and evaluation, and/or technical assistance projects and partnerships in education.
  • Oversee teams, manage projects and complex tasks, and develop solutions to clients’ policy, programmatic, and operational challenges.
  • Support federal education initiatives that involve partnering with state and/or local education agencies, and may lead activities related to evidence-based guidance, technical assistance, evaluation, program monitoring and improvement, partnership management, and capacity building.
  • Contribute to growing the Education and Employment department by directing and supporting projects, identifying and developing new opportunities, leading proposals, and mentoring staff.
  • Build and maintain collaborative, trusting relationships with federal, state, and other education clients and partners and works with them to identify needs, develop solutions, and strengthen program capacity.
  • Collaborate with clients and partners to develop and implement program improvement strategies, monitoring and evaluation strategies, and technical assistance plans based on data, evidence, and subject matter expertise.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to implement, monitor, and advise on federal and state policies and programs, including federal education initiatives.
  • Aggregate, analyze, and present information from multiple sources to assess program performance, identify trends and challenges, and develop actionable recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Apply change management, continuous improvement, participatory, and human-centered design approaches to develop solutions that address client and program needs.
  • Plan and facilitate webinars, meetings, trainings, and small-group discussions with government clients, program staff, education practitioners, and other partners.
  • Author and review high-quality technical assistance and client-facing products, including memoranda, reports, evaluation and measurement plans, implementation guides, trainings, presentations, and other materials.
  • Use web-based and other data management and project management tools to support project implementation, monitoring, analysis, and reporting.
  • Supervise and mentor staff, delegate and review work, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
