About The Position

The Senior Manager directs project and portfolio managers responsible for the full scope of extremely large and complex substation and transmission line projects and programs. The role directs technical project and portfolio opportunities and management of schedules, budgets, implementation risks, changes, opportunities, and resource allocation. It provides strategic and tactical advice and direction for implementation, and develops and manages continuous-improvement opportunities. The position also cultivates effective relationships with internal and external customers and service providers. The role defines workflows, accountabilities, resource needs, and reporting relationships to support effective and efficient project implementation. It develops and directs the multi-year Transmission project/portfolio workbook plan, including service-level agreements and the identification, acquisition, and management of service-provider resources. It provides daily direction to project and portfolio managers to ensure implementation within scope, timing, and forecast guidelines. The Senior Manager also improves implementation processes, guides decisions involving public and regulatory issues, and aligns implementation policies and procedures with company objectives and strategies. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model. Many roles are expected to work onsite three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, although expectations vary by role, team, and business needs.

Requirements

At least 10 years of experience, with demonstrated success in a supervisory role overseeing complex technical projects.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification must be obtained within 18 months in the position.
Advanced knowledge of project management, cross-functional interaction, work direction, and performance management concepts, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of transmission engineering and construction projects.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.

Responsibilities

Define workflows, accountabilities, resource requirements, and reporting relationships to improve project and portfolio implementation effectiveness and efficiency.
Develop and direct implementation processes for the multi-year Transmission project/portfolio workbook plan.
Establish and manage service-level agreements and identify, secure, and manage internal and external service-provider resources.
Provide daily management and direction to project and portfolio managers to ensure the workbook plan is implemented within scope, timing, and forecast guidelines.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations.
Analyze implementation effectiveness and conceptualize and implement improvements.
Provide strategic and tactical guidance and make decisions concerning public and regulatory issues encountered during implementation.
Align project and portfolio implementation policies and procedures with company objectives and strategies.
Direct project and portfolio managers' management of schedules, budgets, implementation risks, changes, opportunities, and resource allocation for complex projects, portfolios, and programs.
