About The Position

The Senior Manager, Federal Government Relations role covers a wide range of policy and public affairs issues for the enterprise. Such issues may include technology, economic, and consumer related policies. The Senior Manager will play a critical role in the company’s advocacy and stakeholder engagement strategies to include educating and engaging with policymakers, leading strategic public affairs initiatives and executing external engagement opportunities that advance priorities and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders. In this role, you will need to work with P&G colleagues, always striving to understand business strategies and objectives in order to identify advocacy opportunities. You will also need to spot emerging issues and help develop relationships with key external parties in Congress, the executive branch, trade associations, embassies and others policy leaders to advance and protect business interests. This role requires a high level of flexibility and ability to be agile in the workplace. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and detail oriented, but above all a team player. You will join a dynamic, high-energy team and can expect to deepen your understanding of public policy, company priorities and strategic operations around the globe. The ideal candidate will also have the skills to help develop communications tools (e.g., one-page position statements, executive briefs, etc.) and represent the company externally. The candidate should have the ability to lead the planning and execution of strategic external engagements and public affairs events designed to support advocacy objectives, stakeholder education, and relationship development.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience on Capitol Hill, Executive branch, trade association and/or experience working directly or indirectly with policy makers or the policy making process.
  • 3+ years working in government relations, public affairs or similar roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies that lead to proactive opportunities for public affairs storytelling.
  • Established understanding of the policy making process and external factors that influence the process.
  • Ability to work in Washington, DC a minimum of three days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Perform government relations duties that support P&G business priorities on Capitol Hill and with various Executive Branch officials and agencies, as well as other stakeholders in the public policy making process. Responsibilities require lobbying registration.
  • Play a critical role interpreting policy initiatives and proposals, analyzing their impact and communicating often with government relations and business colleagues for understanding.
  • Lead planning and execution for strategic external engagement opportunities, including policy events, stakeholder convenings, coalition activities, and public affairs programming that advance advocacy and business objectives.
  • Develop and lead strategies that help the team accomplish objectives, including an understanding of best practices for communication with policy makers and staff, as well as with business leaders.
