Requirements

US and Canadian tax compliance and accounting expert to oversee the operational Tax responsibilities for our clients (tax withholding, tax reporting, tax form verification etc).
Managing other members of the Tax team.
Creates and implements tax plans.
Works with the accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk.
Ensures compliance with state/province, federal and international tax law through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
Monitors current and impending changes to tax regulations and makes the appropriate updates to policies and strategies.
Optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful function of the tax team.
Extensive individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledge, including experience and knowledge of Canadian and US tax rules.
Experience in US tax slip preparation and Canadian tax slip preparation.
Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.
Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership skills.

Responsibilities

Ensure timely tax remittance to the CRA and IRS and reconcile the tax withholdings
Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in Company tax procedures.
Prioritize multiple tax filings requirements and effectively working with the business lines to establish the timely receipt of relevant information needed for all tax filings.
Solicit, verify and process Canadian and US tax forms for our clients and their shareholders (NR forms, FATCA/CRS, W8, W9 etc.)
Providing procedural guidance to internal teams for the review of IRS and CRA taxpayer certification forms.
Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
Provide support with various internal and external audits and special tax related projects.
Monitor tax files monthly, review the data integrity and ensure applicable rates, formulas and tax factors have been applied to all income, interest and unit trust distribution events.
Support other team members with facilitating and managing the preparation and review of U.S. and Canadian returns and the accurate, timely filing of all returns to the tax authority and the taxpayers.
