About The Position

Vast is seeking a Senior Manager, Spacecraft Operations to support development of the systems needed to design and build human-rated space stations. Reporting to the VP of Mission Operations, this full-time, exempt position is based on-site at Vast’s headquarters in Long Beach, California. The role is responsible for planning and successfully executing Vast’s crewed and uncrewed spacecraft missions. The Senior Manager will lead mission operations engineers through all phases of operations, from early mission and vehicle design and concept of operations through activation and checkout, on-orbit operations, payloads and science, anomaly resolution, and end-of-life decommissioning or deorbit. The role includes leadership and administrative duties as well as support for 24/7 console operations. Working with vehicle, payload, mission operations, and ground software engineers from the earliest spacecraft architecture trades, this position ensures operational needs are incorporated into spacecraft and ground systems. The Senior Manager sets technical standards for safe, reliable, and efficient operations and builds the processes, people, and tools needed to scale Vast’s mission cadence. The position may require travel up to 20% and support during nights, weekends, holidays, and critical mission milestones. Applicants must meet the stated U.S.-person eligibility requirements for access to export-controlled information and technology.
