Senior Associate, Systems Engineer - Spacecraft Operator

L3Harris Technologies•Palm Bay, FL

About The Position

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Spacecraft Operator to support mission-critical national security space operations within the Spectral Solutions Enterprise. The role supports day-to-day operations of a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite with an infrared payload, coordinating with the primary operations team at the Palm Bay operations facility. The position provides a remote operational interface for data transfers, operational guidance, mission briefings, customer coordination, and development and testing of operational products. The operator applies hands-on spacecraft Telemetry, Tracking & Command (TT&C) experience, telemetry analysis, spacecraft commanding, operational planning, and anomaly identification and resolution. The individual independently assesses spacecraft and ground-system information, provides technically sound operational recommendations, and coordinates activities among geographically separated operations teams, engineering organizations, and the customer. The listed schedule is 9/80, with every other Friday off.

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a graduate degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of related experience, or at least 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Eligibility to obtain an interim Secret clearance.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft or satellite operations, preferably in an operational command-and-control or satellite operations center environment.
  • Experience performing spacecraft TT&C, including commanding and monitoring spacecraft health and status.
  • Experience analyzing telemetry and supporting spacecraft command preparation, validation, execution, and verification.
  • Experience supporting LEO spacecraft operations.
  • Experience developing operational plans, procedures, timelines, and mission activities.
  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting spacecraft, payload, ground-system, or mission anomalies.
  • Ability to interpret operational data and provide technical and operational guidance.
  • Ability to coordinate operational data transfers and mission products across geographically separated sites.
  • Ability to develop, validate, and maintain operational products and technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting product development, integration, verification, and test activities.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical and operational briefings.
  • Ability to work effectively with distributed operations teams and provide remote operational support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn complex spacecraft and mission information into actionable guidance.

Nice To Haves

  • Small satellite operations experience.
  • Previous experience supporting similar on-orbit infrared satellite missions.
  • Experience working directly with government customers and cross-functional engineering, operations, and program teams.
  • Experience developing professional presentations using Microsoft Office applications to communicate past performance, current operational status, and future mission activities and objectives.
  • Experience conducting anomaly investigations and root-cause analysis and developing operational workarounds or corrective actions.
  • Active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TT&C activities, including spacecraft commanding and monitoring spacecraft health and status.
  • Analyze telemetry to identify spacecraft performance trends, off-nominal conditions, and potential anomalies.
  • Support command preparation, validation, execution, and post-command verification.
  • Develop and support spacecraft operational plans, procedures, timelines, and mission activities.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and support resolution of spacecraft, payload, ground-system, or mission anomalies.
  • Interpret operational data and provide real-time or near-real-time technical and operational guidance.
  • Support operational data transfers and coordinate mission data and operational products between geographically separated sites.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain operational products, including procedures, checklists, plans, briefings, and technical documentation.
